How to Send Clothes for Mail-in Alterations

Mail-in alterations make professional tailoring accessible no matter where you live. Whether you need a dress hemmed, a jacket taken in, or pants shortened, you can ship your garment and receive it back altered and ready to wear — without leaving home.

Here's exactly how the process works.

Step 1: Book a Phone Consultation First

Before you ship anything, schedule a phone consultation. This is the most important step. During the call, I'll ask about the garment, the alteration you need, your measurements, and any fit concerns. This ensures I have everything I need before your package arrives and eliminates delays.

Step 2: Order Your Alteration Service

After your consultation, select the appropriate alteration service from the shop and complete your order online. Your order number helps me match your package to your file when it arrives.

Step 3: Prepare Your Garment

  • Wash and dry the garment before shipping — alterations are performed on clean items only
  • Make sure zippers, buttons, and closures are intact
  • If you have a specific concern (a loose button, a worn seam), include a note so I can address it

Step 4: Pack It Carefully

  • Fold the garment neatly to avoid stress on seams during transit
  • Place it in a plastic bag inside the shipping box or padded envelope to protect against moisture
  • Include a printed note with your name, order number, phone number, and a brief description of the alteration needed

Step 5: Ship with Tracking

Use USPS, UPS, or FedEx and always request a tracking number. Keep your tracking number until your garment is returned. I recommend insuring high-value items like formal gowns, bridal wear, or suit jackets.

Step 6: Return Shipping

A return shipping fee is included in your order or available as an add-on. Your altered garment will be shipped back to you with tracking once the work is complete.
